How Much Does Junk Removal Cost in Los Angeles and Orange County?
By The Bin & Beyond Team · Published August 28, 2026

Junk removal pricing in Southern California is confusing largely because two different pricing models get quoted for the same job. Understanding which one you are being quoted is most of the battle.
The Two Pricing Models
Per item
You pay for the specific pieces you need gone. This is almost always cheaper for small jobs: one couch, a mattress and a bed frame, a broken fridge, a pile of moving boxes. Our pricing works this way, at $65 for the first item and $15 for each additional item.
Truckload volume
You pay for how much of the truck bed your pile fills, typically quoted as a fraction: eighth load, quarter load, half load, full load. In the LA and OC market, minimum charges commonly start in the $130 to $180 range for a small load and full truckloads frequently land between $600 and $900. This model makes sense for genuine cleanouts where counting items is impractical.
The practical rule: if you can count your items on two hands, per item pricing almost certainly costs less. If you are clearing an entire garage, estate, or rental turnover, ask for a volume quote.
What Drives the Price Up
- Stairs and long carries, especially second floor apartments without elevators
- Disassembly, such as bed frames, treadmills, sheds, and swing sets
- Heavy or awkward single items like pianos, safes, hot tubs, and cast iron tubs
- Landfill and transfer station fees, which are higher for mattresses, appliances with refrigerant, and mixed loads
- Same day or weekend scheduling in peak moving season
Free and Low Cost Options Worth Checking First
We will say this plainly because it is true: many residents in Los Angeles County and Orange County are entitled to a limited number of free bulky item pickups each year through their city or their contracted waste hauler. The number of items and the frequency vary widely by city, and scheduling can take one to three weeks.
If your job is one or two items, you are not in a hurry, and you can get them to the curb yourself, check your city's bulky item program before paying anyone. It may cost nothing.

First item $65, each additional $15, and $10 off when you bundle with a bin cleaning.

- The item is inside and heavy, and city programs require curbside placement
- You are on a deadline, such as a move out, walkthrough, or listing photos
- The volume exceeds your city's annual free allowance
- The load is mixed, including items the city program excludes
- You physically cannot move the item safely, which is the most common reason people call us
Real Examples
- One couch from a garage in Downey: single item, $65
- Mattress, box spring, and bed frame from a Fullerton bedroom: three items, $95
- Post move cleanout with a chair, two dressers, a mirror, and eight boxes: five countable items plus boxes, quoted per item
- Bin cleaning plus a mattress haul on the same visit: hauling drops to $55 with the bundle discount
How to Get an Accurate Quote
Photos help more than descriptions. Send a picture of the pile and note whether it is at the curb, in a garage, or upstairs. That is usually enough to give a firm number rather than a range. Also mention anything hazardous, since paint, chemicals, and construction debris need county collection sites rather than a hauling truck.
If you are also deciding what to donate versus discard, our donation guide covers what LA and OC charities actually accept.
